Are you guys really going on that crazy trip you’ve been talking about?
Yes. We bought our tickets in February. We’re totally going.
Where did you say you’re going?
India, Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore. If we have time/money, we would love to see Indonesia too. We’ll see.
How long are you going for?
Just over 3 months. Yes, that’s a really long time, but it’s barely enough to to scratch the surface of so many places. Besides, everyone should take a trip like this at least once.
How much is that going to cost?!
A lot, but probably not nearly as much as you think. Asia is very inexpensive if you’re careful. Seriously. The tickets are the biggest expense by far, but once you’re there it’s surprisingly easy to afford.
You guys aren’t rich. How can you afford it?
We’ve been saving aggressively and selling anything that’s not bolted down. You’d be surprised how well this works.
Is it safe over there?
In most places, it’s much safer than a large city in the US. We’re taking precautions and promise to be careful, so please don’t worry.
What are you taking with you?
We’re really trying to pack light, since we’re backpacking. You can see the whole shebang here, but yes, we’re really going to live out of 2 medium sized backpacks for 3 months. Most basics are available on the road, but you’d be wise to prepare yourself for some funny pictures, cause we’re leaving all of Julia’s hair appliances behind
