The trip and our first day
We made it! Two back-to-back 8 hour flights got us to Delhi around 2 am last night, and we (thankfully) had pre-arranged our first night’s stay and airport pickup. Now if any of you are considering having a website designed, I would strongly encourage you to find out who did the site for H.K. Choudhary’s Guesthouse. They did an excellent job of emphasizing their convenient location, while downplaying the whole Turkish prison vibe. We kind of got that red flag feeling when there were several people (staff/proprietors) sleeping on the floor of the lobby area when we arrived. It wasn’t that bad, but we were pretty disappointed with our new (if very temporary) home after such a long trip.

View from our new (and thankfully better) Delhi hotel
The first thing we did this morning was start looking for better digs in/around Connaught Place, one of the backpacker centers of Delhi. Within about 10 minutes of walking, we popped into the tourism services office (on the urging of 3 strangers who saw us wandering bewildered through the streets). It looks like we’re going to spring for a bit of a tour package, though not one with a guide, just reservations/tickets/vouchers for about 10 cities throughout northern India. It’s a little out of our budget (ok, maybe a lot), but you quickly get the feeling here that it’s vital to keep frustration at bay, even at an expense. Plus, apparently I get to ride a camel! It’s very easy to see how this city overwhelms visitors. We haven’t even been here 24 hours, and already we’re retreating to our room for some AC and rest. The first night was a little hairy, but after a change to a nicer hotel and some awesome butter chicken and naan, we’re feeling pretty good.

Ahhhhhh
